Peter van Breukelen

For 21 years he has been capturing great moments in music. Being a bassplayer, discovering photography as another way of expressing himself, music was a logical subject. Since then, he visited countless concerts and festivals with the North Sea Jazz festival as a yearly main event. He always tries to approach music photography more as an artform than a registration. He participated in lots of exhibitions gaining a reputation as being able to capture the passion and intentions of musicians. Peter also works on assignments for artists, bands and recordlabels producing promotional shots and cover art. By now his work is used in publications worldwide. Peter published his first jazz-photobook 'Happy Man' about the life of Dutch saxophone player Benjamin Herman with lyrics by Dutch poet Jules Deelder. For this photo essay he followed Benjamin Herman over a period of two years. He was awarded 1st prize in the prestigious Dutch 'Silver Camera' award in the art category for a selection of photographs from this book. Peter is currently working on his second photo book. This book will contain an overview of all his jazz related music photography of the past 21 years.
